Let Them Eat Cake

Today I've been scoffing lovely homemade cakes so I have cake on the brain. My work colleagues and I have had our own Come Dine With Me dinner parties. The one this lunchtime was afternoon tea with three different homemade cakes. I am suitably stuffed.

It's inspired me to focus a blog post on the wedding cake. However simple or decadent, or savoury even, every wedding needs that centrepiece. One style I have not seen much of before, but seems to be gaining popularity is the use of metallic colours. Nothing too 1970s disco themed, but metallic shades that add a spot of jazz and decadence.

Here's a few I've spotted, although they look so good it would be a shame to dig in.... almost.

I love the central feature of gold in these cakes. When someone says metallic wedding cake, most would think they would look tacky. But these are sophisticated with not a diamante in sight.

Rose gold is a current favourite colour of mine. It's subtle and feminine yet still has that regal expensive feel to it. Rose gold at a wedding would be beautiful and it is definitely one of my possible colour choices for when I tie the knot.

The painted wash of these cakes is very minimalistic. If your wedding style is more simple and chic, these cakes would fit perfectly. The metallic tones don't have to be all over colour, and super bold. It can be used in smaller sections without being too in your face.

There's also using the metallic shades in different sections of the tiers. I love the idea of using pops of gold or silver whether as shapes or decoration on the cakes. Adding edible or non-edible flowers is also a way to jazz up your cake. Decoration also depends on how much money you have to spend. If you're on a tighter budget, choosing simple colours and decorating with brightly coloured flowers is a great way to have an amazing cake without splurging too much.

The Ring..

It is just me, or does the man have a tremendously difficult job to choose the engagement ring. A piece that will hopefully be worn every day for the rest of your life. Even when fashions change, this ring need to stand the test of time. I have so many favourite styles and shapes so just one blog post wouldn't be able to show them all.

So the first of many...

The Oval

The classic oval shaping is simple yet sophisticated. It is glamorous without being in your face. For me a ring has to be a statement of ones personality and style. If I'm going to be wearing a ring every day, it has to make me feel feminine and proud to wear it. Unfortunately I'm not a fan of the single diamond on a plain band, that's too simple for me.

These however...
